Affirming Therapy for LGBTQ+ Individuals

Hey there...
For those who are exploring their gender identity or sexual orientation, I offer a space that is nonjudgmental, affirming, and focused on your individual lived experience. I know firsthand that the coming out process doesn’t happen just once. With each new person that we meet, we ask ourselves: Is this a safe person I can open up to?

Emotional Impact of Growing Up Queer
For LGBTQ+ individuals growing up under strict religious, family, or social pressures can leave a lasting imprint. As young people, we often had to hide and repress important aspects of our identity in order to stay safe and avoid harm. The chronic hypervigilance and internal monitoring that once protected us from danger often persists well past the point it's no longer needed. Although there has been societal progress regarding acceptance and inclusion, there are moments when it feels like we are collectively moving backwards and this can retrigger past fears and reopen old wounds.
Some of the mental health challenges facing the queer community may include the coming out process, transitioning, family rejection, marginalization, internalized homophobia/transphobia, gender dysphoria, and body dysmorphia.
Exploring Identity in Relationship
Diversity and self-expression are two gifts that the queer community shares with the world. They teach others, queer or otherwise, that gender and sexuality are not rigid constructs that we all must conform to. How we present ourselves and the way we form relationships with others exists on a spectrum. Romantic partnerships, for example, come in a variety of forms other than the monogamous, heterosexual paradigm. Therapy can be a place where you can explore unconventional relationship styles and deepen your understanding of what works for you.

A Supportive Space for Self-Discovery
Whether you are questioning, transitioning, or making sense of who you are and what's important, my aim is to walk beside you on your journey of self-discovery. LGBTQ+ affirming therapy is a space where people can explore their gender identity, sexual orientation, and relationship matters without judgement or pressure to conform. We might look at inherited oppressive beliefs that hinder your self-expression, tend to the grief that stems from years of self-abandonment, and cultivate the feelings of joy and freedom that come when we honour our authentic selves. You don’t have to do this alone. You are welcome here.
